Group lessons

Per person

You share one coach with up to four other surfers, who may be people you’ve never met. Every figure below is what one person pays for the whole package.

Package Total, per person Which is
1 session €45 €45 per session
3 sessions €130 ≈ €43.33 per session
5 sessions €200 €40 per session
10 sessions €370 €37 per session

Two people booking a group lesson pay €45 each — €90 together.

Private lessons — one surfer

Total for one surfer

One coach, one student, nobody else. These figures are for a single surfer — if two of you want to share a private coach, use the next table.

Package Total Which is
1 session €95 €95 per session
3 sessions €260 ≈ €86.67 per session
5 sessions €400 €80 per session
10 sessions €680 €68 per session

Private lessons — two surfers

Total for both

One coach shared by the two of you and nobody else. The first column is the whole bill for both surfers; the last column is what that works out at for each of you, per session.

Package Total for both Each person pays Per person, per session
1 session €130 €65 €65
3 sessions €360 €180 €60
5 sessions €540 €270 €54
10 sessions €880 €440 €44

Built as the one-surfer price plus a second-surfer supplement: €35 on 1 session, €100 on 3, €140 on 5, €200 on 10.

Reading the €44 correctly. €44 is the smallest number on this page and it is not the price of a private lesson. It only appears at the bottom of the largest commitment: two surfers, ten sessions, €880 paid for the package. A single private lesson for two people is €130.

Family pack — four people or more

Per person, per session

From four people up, the coach is yours alone: a family pack is a private lesson for your family, not a place in a public group. Here the figure is per person for each session — multiply by the people and the sessions to get your total.

Package Per person, per session Total for a family of four
1 session €40 €160
3 sessions €37.50 €450
5 sessions €35 €700
10 sessions €30 €1,200

More than four people? The per-person rate stays the same — the total simply grows with the group.

Video coaching

Per person

We film you in the water and go through the footage with you afterwards. These figures are what one person pays for the package.

Package Total, per person
1 session €65
3 sessions €180
5 sessions €275

Private video session — €140. That is the price for one surfer, filmed and coached alone. A second surfer adds €30, so two of you together is €170 — €85 each.

Rentals

Per item

Boards and wetsuits to take out on your own. Each price is for one item, for one person, over the length of time shown.

Item ½ day 1 day 3 days 7 days
Softboard €15 €20 €55 €95
Hardboard €20 €25 €65 €100
Wetsuit €10 €15 €35 €50
Softboard + wetsuit €25 €35 €85 €130
Hardboard + wetsuit €30 €40 €90 €150

All rentals need ID (passport) and a signed waiver. Rental hours are 8:30 to 18:30, and equipment comes back washed and clean.

Coaching & guiding

Priced on request

Half or full days for surfers who already stand up — forecast reading, choosing the bank, and coaching in the water. Because the length follows the conditions, we price these one by one rather than off a list.

Find your level

Where are you on the wave?

Five honest stages. Pick the one that sounds like you — and if you’re between two, we’ll figure it out together in the water.

First Timer

Day one. The good kind of nervous.

First contact with the ocean on a surfboard. We walk you through every step — catching your first waves and standing up on the board — while teaching you how to read the sea, along with the essential surfing etiquette and safety rules.

Why us

The things that decide how your week goes.

Bruno Grandela riding a longboard with both feet on the nose, on a clean green wall of water. An empty wave breaking at first light, seen from the pines above the beach. A coach talking a small group through the session on the sand before they paddle out. Two surfers in wetsuits walking down the beach with their boards, the cliff behind them. Two surfers stretching on the sand beside their boards before paddling out.
  • Surfing ran through this family before anyone outside Portugal had heard of Peniche. My great-grandfather was the first lifeguard in the town; my uncle, Bruno Grandela, is a multiple-time Portuguese longboard champion and one of the most respected longboarders in the country. Nobody knows this stretch of coast better than a family that has been in it for four generations.

  • The forecast gets read before the coffee does. We choose the beach for your group and for what the ocean is actually doing — not for the nearest car park. That is what decades on this coast, and a family from it, are for.

  • We are a small school on purpose. Never more than five surfers to an instructor, so the session is shaped around what you actually need to fix rather than around filling a van. It is an intimate, personal way to learn, and it is the reason people leave here having genuinely improved instead of just having been in the sea.

  • The best surfboards on the market, kept in condition, and the right one under you for your weight, your level and the day’s conditions. Most schools hand you whatever is still in the van. We would rather spend the money and put our students on equipment that actually helps them progress.

  • Training on land for the turn your surfing is reaching for — the part that is hardest to fix while a wave is happening to you. It runs inside our surf camps; ask us if you would like a session alongside your lessons.

Before you ask

Questions we hear on the sand.

How are the lessons booked?

By WhatsApp or email. To give you the best possible session, we choose the time and the beach according to the day’s conditions and your level — that way you get the best spots of this beautiful coast, not just the nearest sand.

How do I know my level?

Not sure? No worries — we’ve got you. Send us a message about your surf experience, the board you usually ride, and where you’ve surfed before, and we’ll find the right fit. The level guide above helps too.

Do I need any experience?

None at all. Most of our students are standing on a surfboard for the very first time. The lesson is built for exactly that.

Can my kid have surf lessons?

From five years old, yes. Our school coordinator looks at each case individually, but as a general policy children twelve and under join private lessons only — at that age a surf instructor’s full attention is necessary, especially at a beginner level.

What if the conditions are bad?

We check the forecast the evening before and move the time, the beach, or the day if needed. If nothing works, you don’t pay. Simple.

What should I bring?

Swimwear, a towel, water, and sunscreen. Everything else — board, wetsuit, patience — is ours.

Are you open all year round?

Yes — we never close. Summer is warmest and gentlest; autumn is quieter with better waves; winter is for the brave and the well-wetsuited. We’ll be honest about what the week looks like.

What time is sunrise and sunset?

It swings a lot through the year on this coast — the table below gives you the picture.

DateSunriseSunset
1 January07:5517:26
1 April07:2120:00
1 July06:1621:05
1 October07:3319:19
Can I rent equipment on my own?

Yes — with a few simple rules:

  • Passport required.
  • Rental hours: 8:30 to 18:30.
  • Equipment comes back in good condition — wetsuit and board washed and clean.
