The day

Not a bus trip. A day inside the operation.

Plenty of companies will drive you to Nazaré, point at the water and drive you home. This is not that. You go up with us in the surf van, you eat where we eat, and you stand in the warehouse where the skis that ride the biggest waves in the world are kept between swells.

Lourenço surfs Nazaré. He works there in the winter alongside his teammate Sérgio Cosme, and the people at the marina are the people he works with. That is the only reason this door opens — and it is why almost nobody else gets to walk through it.

The part almost nobody sees

The Jet Sessions warehouse.

In the Nazaré marina sits one of the biggest big-wave operations on earth. This is where the skis are prepared, repaired and loaded before a swell — the working end of the sport, closed to the public and quiet between winters.

You will see the skis up close, get on them, and photograph the WSL Big Wave Award won by Sérgio Cosme with Nic von Rupp and Clément Rosero for best team performance. The history in that building is the point: these are the athletes who have come through it.

How it runs

Out before lunch, home before sunset.

  1. North in the surf van

We leave before lunch and drive up the coast together. It is about an hour, and the van is ours — no schedule, no strangers.

  2. Lunch in Nazaré

Seafood, where the town actually eats. If you don’t eat fish, say so when you book and we’ll sort something you’ll be glad of.

  3. The lighthouse

Standing above Praia do Norte, Lourenço explains how the wave works — the canyon, the swell, why it does what it does here and nowhere else — and what his own winters in big-wave surfing actually involve.

  4. The warehouse

Then the part you cannot buy anywhere: inside the Jet Sessions operation, up close to the skis, with the award on the wall and the history of the place around you.

  5. Back before sunset

Home to Peniche with time to spare, and probably a lot to talk about at dinner.

Included

The warehouse visit, the lighthouse, and lunch.

Things we can arrange.

These depend on who is in town and what is happening that week, so they are priced individually.

When schedules allow, one of the big-wave crew comes along for part of it.

  • A big-wave workshop or autograph session

    On request

A sit-down session on how the sport actually works, or a signing for the group.

  • A visit to CAR Surf

    On request

The high-performance big-wave centre run by the Município de Nazaré.

Add it to your week.

Pick it in the camp booking and we’ll set it up around the forecast and your group. Nothing is charged when you send the form.

Don’t worry — Lourenço replies personally within 24 hours with an exact price and the next simple step.
